Today in the One Year Bible we read from Matthew 14:13-36. His disciples tell Jesus to send the people away to get food. Jesus says, "You feed them." Notice He didn't say "I'll feed them." He was teaching them, and us, to meet the needs we find in our lives, through Him.
Notice He didn't just create food out of nothing, either. He took what they had and multiplied it, meeting the needs so abundantly that there was lots left over. He does the same thing in our lives. He takes what we have and grows it to meet the needs we face each day. And He grows it so much that there is lots left over to help even more people.
Give Him what you've got today and help feed His children. There are needs all around us. Volunteer at a soup kitchen. Give food gift cards to homeless people. Ask at your church how you can help the poor and pick one of the many ways that you can get involved. Let's be His hands and feet and let Him take care of His children through us.
God, thank You for giving us such a clear picture of helping the poor. Help us do so.
