Today in the One Year Bible we read from Matthew 13:47-14:12. Jesus goes to His home town and doesn't receive a very warm welcome. "We know this guy... He's Joseph's son." Which shows they didn't actually know Him at all.
But we see here that Jesus Himself had difficulty doing the work of the kingdom at home. People had little faith in Him because they thought they knew Him.
It's hard for us to do the work of the kingdom at home, too. Mother Teresa said (something like) if you want to change the world, go home and love your family. (here is what she actually said) And it's a challenge for us to do that. Because our family has seen us fail. They've seen us lose our temper and mess up. So when we try to love them, they think "yeah right" and don't take our faith seriously. Conversely, we need to stop assuming we know what our family members mean or why they do things. If God is working in their lives, they might do something "uncharacteristic". Let's have the faith and patience to let them do kingdom work in OUR lives as well.
God, thanks for showing us that it's hard to do Your work at home. Please help us do it anyway.
