In the One Year Bible reading for today, we see these verses:
2 SAMUEL 14:1-15:22
JOHN 18:1-24
PSALM 119:97-112
PROVERBS 16:8-9
JOHN 18:1-24
PSALM 119:97-112
PROVERBS 16:8-9
Looking at John, we see a temple guard slapping Jesus in the face for the way He answered a question. He spoke the truth, and the world hated Him for it. It'll hate you for speaking the truth, too.
But taking a step back, look what happened here. A mere man slapped God in the face. At any moment, Jesus could have called legions of angels to come and destroy the rulers planning His death, and strike the man down dead for daring to slap God.
But Jesus was patient. He forgave the guard. He forgave all the people who crucified Him, saying they didn't know what they were doing (and they didn't. and we don't today, either).
God is patient with us. When we sin. When we turn our backs on Him. When we hurt other people. He COULD just strike us down, which is what we deserve. But He gives us time to turn from our sins. He gives us time to listen to His still, small voice telling them what to do to be saved.
What is God calling you to do today that He's patiently waiting for you to realize?
God, thank You for being patient with us. Help us to listen.
