more than food, more than water

 We read these verses in the One Year Bible today:

Judges 21:1-Ruth 1:22
John 4:4-42
Psalm 105:1-15
Proverbs 14:25 

In John, we see something more important than food or water. The woman at the well becomes Jesus's first missionary, taking the news of Him and His kingdom to her village. Many became followers of Jesus due to her sharing what she learned from Jesus. 

And what she learned is that there is water that is more valuable than H2O.  She learned it so deeply that she left her water jug at the well when she went back to her village. And then when Jesus's disciples returned and asked Him about food, He said He had food that they didn't know about - doing God's work.

The deeper water and the more than food bring us to the Eucharist, which is the true food and true drink that brings us eternal life. When we eat His flesh and drink His blood, which shocked His original listeners when He told them just as much as it shocks people today, He draws us into Himself and gives us His eternal life.

God, thanks for teaching us about food beyond food and water that's deeper than water.
