He > me

Today in the One Year Bible we read these verses:

Judges 19:1-20:48
John 3:22-4:3
Psalm 104:24-35
Proverbs 14:22-24

Looking at John, we find a very profound sentence. John tells his disciples that Jesus has now come, so John must decrease while Jesus increases. And shortly after that, John decreases so much that he is killed as a martyr.

That's a good phrase for us to meditate on and make part of our lives. Jesus must increase, and I must decrease. The more that that happens, the better people we become. Does that mean we lose our personalities? Not at all. Look at all the saints through history - they're very unique people, each very different from the rest. As we increase Jesus in our lives, we become more and more ourselves, very different from everyone else.

God, thanks for teaching us to increase Jesus and decrease ourselves in our lives.
