the darkness will not overcome it

Today we read these verses in the One Year Bible:

Judges 11:1-12:15
John 1:1-28
Psalm 101:1-8
Proverbs 14:13-14

And we're looking at one of my favorite passages from the entire Bible today. The first chapter of the gospel of John. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. That's some beautiful and profound writing right there.

At the end of that paragraph, it says that the light of the Word, which is Jesus, shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Several things we can learn here. First, a tiny light shines very brightly when it is very dark outside. Even if your light is very small and not that bright, be sure to shine it. You never know whose life will be brightened by it. Second, the darkness has not overcome His light - and it never will. You can rest in that truth. Find comfort in that knowledge. Jesus's light will ALWAYS overcome the darkness, no matter how dark it gets.

God, thanks for showing us that Your light and ours will shine in the darkness and help people find their way.
