led by the Spirit

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

Numbers 30:1-31:54
Luke 4:1-30
Psalm 63:1-11
Proverbs 11:20-21

Let's look at Luke. It tells us that Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit, after His baptism, into the wilderness. There He was tempted by Satan. After He defeats Satan's temptations, He is led by the Spirit into Galilee where He started teaching.

Jesus was without sin, which means He always did what God wanted. So we should look to His example to know how to live our lives. He was led by the Holy Spirit to do and teach the things He did. We should learn to do this, too. It's not easy, of course. But spending time in the Bible and in prayer every day teaches us to listen to His voice. Then when our friend asks for advice, He will give us the words to say - sometimes from the very passage you read in the Bible that day! He will lead you to stop and help people who are struggling. He will lead you to love the unloveable. As we listen to the Holy Spirit, He will teach us how to be more like Jesus.

God, thanks for giving us the Holy Spirit - please help us learn to listen to the Spirit like Jesus did.
