Jesus was very human

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

Numbers 26:1-51
Luke 2:36-52
Psalm 60:1-12
Proverbs 11:15

Let's look at Luke. Jesus stays in Jerusalem after his parents leave. When they finally find Him three days later, He's sitting in the temple listening to the teachers and asking questions. And then Luke says, "He grew in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and men."

This tells you how fully Jesus was human. We Christians believe that Jesus was 100% human AND 100% God. And this passage from Luke shows His humanity. He wasn't in the temple TEACHING, as we would expect God to be doing. He was learning, asking questions, and becoming wise. And the last sentence I quoted says He GREW in wisdom and in favor with God. How can that be if He was God? It's true because He was also 100% man. So He wasn't born knowing everything. The more He lived a sinless life, the more He grew in favor with God (the Father).

This is good news for me and you. Because Jesus knows what it's like to get tired. He knows how it feels to be lonely and sad and to make dumb mistakes. He knows what it's like to be human. So when you feel down and your humanity is weighing on you, ask for His help. He's been there. And He'll help you.

God, thanks for being human so we can relate to You when we pray.
