Today we read these verses in the One Year Bible:
Zechariah 1:1-21
Revelation 12:1-17
Psalm 140:1-13
Proverbs 30:17
Let's look at Zechariah. God tells His people through the prophet, "My towns will again overflow with prosperity, and the LORD will once again comfort Zion and choose Jerusalem."
Like Nineveh in the story of Jonah, Jerusalem had been warned that they had sinned, and they repented. God then delighted to forgive them and "comfort and choose" them once more. Thankfully, Zechariah didn't seem to mind that God forgave them. Unlike Jonah, who sank into depression because he had told Nineveh that they would be destroyed in 40 days and God forgave them and didn't destroy them when they repented.
That's what we should be praying for today. There is a great deal of evil going on today. I'm sure if God sent an Old Testament prophet to visit us today, he'd be warning us that we'd better repent or we'll be destroyed. So let's pray that the leaders of the world DO in fact repent of their greed and lust and turn back to God - before it's too late.
God, thanks for delighting in forgiving us.
