Let's look at James. What a great book. What a great chapter! If you have time, read the whole book of James. If you have slightly less time, read all of chapter 4. Great wisdom. We're gonna look at verses 2 and 3 tonight. It says you don't have what you want because you don't ask for it. And when you DO ask for things, you just ask for what makes you feel good.
It's the same reason why God usually doesn't let us win the lottery. Because most people would just blow the money on the stuff that brings them some temporary pleasure instead of making the world a better place. But even without millions of dollars, what are you asking for today? Better food, fancier cars, nicer houses? Or are you looking for ways to help people in need?
God, please teach us how to pray - and how to live.
