the easy way or the hard way: One Year Bible Reading for November 19

Today we read these verses in the One Year Bible:

Ezekiel 39:1-40:27
James 2:18-3:18
Psalm 118:1-18
Proverbs 28:2

Let's look at Ezekiel. God says that He's going to destroy Gog, which is the king of Meshek and Tubal. And then He says, "And then you will know that I am the LORD."

That's the hard way to learn. And many (maybe most?) people learn who God is the hard way. By Him "smacking you in the head with a 2 X 4", as some people put it. I don't recommend coming to know God that way. It hurts!

There's an easier way. You can "Be still and know that I am God," as He says in Psalm 46:10. This is much easier than it sounds. Just find a quiet place, maybe by taking a walk. Get quiet. Seek Him. If it helps, say something like, "Here I am, God. I'm seeking You." And then just wait. You might experience His voice then and there. Maybe He'll bring someone to mind that you should pray for or help in a more hands on way. Maybe He'll just show you something beautiful, like a sunset or a river or something. Or maybe He'll wait. He often rewards our "seeking Him" hours, days, sometimes weeks or even months later. But He WILL reward you, if you seek Him and wait for His reply.

God, thanks for giving us the easy way and the hard way.
