helping the poor, not hurting them: One Year Bible Reading for November 22

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

Ezekiel 44:1-45:12
1 Peter 1:1-12
Psalm 119:17-32
Proverbs 28:8-10

Let's look at the proverbs. It says that "whoever increases wealth by taking profit or interest from the poor amasses it for someone else, who is kind to the poor." That means that if you take advantage of the poor for your own enrichment, God will take your riches and give them to someone who helps the poor.

Now, we know that doesn't always happen during this lifetime. Some people take advantage of the poor (insert the person in a political party who preys on the poor to get votes and money) and get away with it - for a long time. But eventually they will pay the piper. No one takes their wealth to heaven with them - unless their wealth is other people. That's the only wealth you take with you to heaven. So invest in them - especially the poor, who can't pay you back!

God, thanks for assuring us that those who help the poor will receive eternal rewards, while those who take advantage of them will not.
