what we should think about: One Year Bible Reading for October 3

Did you know that the Bible clearly tells us what we should think about? And it's probably not what you think it is! Some people sum up the Bible as "Stop doing those bad things." But that's not the point! Let's read from today's verses in the One Year Bible. They are:

Jeremiah 1:1-2:30
Philippians 4:1-23
Psalm 75:1-10
Proverbs 24:17-20

Let's look especially at Philippians. Paul tells us clearly, "Rejoice in the Lord always. Again, I say: rejoice! Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything (through prayer and supplication with thanksgiving) let your requests be known to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds. Now, whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, or praiseworthy, THINK ABOUT THOSE THINGS."

So, to be clear here, the Bible tells us NOT to live in anxiety, but instead to think about positive things. This will probably take some training of your own mind. Because you're used to hearing bad things all day. The news likes to tell us what's wrong with the world. But God tells us not to be anxious. Don't worry. Instead, focus your mind on positive things. One way you can do that is by spending time in prayer every day, thanking God for all of the good things in your life.

God, thanks for teaching us to think about good things and not live in anxiety.
