sleeping the last sleep: One Year Bible Reading for October 4

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

Jeremiah 2:31-4:18
Colossians 1:1-17
Psalm 76:1-12
Proverbs 24:21-22

Let's look at the Psalm. The writer says a very powerful thing in passing. He says, "They sleep their last sleep." He's saying this about the soldiers who have been slain in battle.

But that sleep is coming for all of us, right? I've pointed out in previous blogs that when we go to sleep at night and wake up each morning, we are practicing what's going to happen at the end of our lives. On that day (which is coming soon), you will go to sleep. And when you wake up, you will either go to heaven (maybe by way of purgatory), or you will go to hell.

Do you know where you'll go? There is no more important question for you to answer in your life. If you would like to talk to someone about where you'll go, feel free to contact me at jeff.reedy@gmail.com and I'll talk about how we can get ready. If you ARE ready, help me share this news with everyone so they can get ready, too.

God, thanks for giving us practice going to sleep and waking up again.
