eat honey, seek wisdom: One Year Bible Reading for October 1

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

Isaiah 62:6-65:25
Philippians 2:19-3:3
Psalm 73:1-28
Proverbs 24:13-14

Let's look at the proverb. It's very simple. "Eat honey, my son, for it is good. Honey from the comb is sweet to your taste. Know also that wisdom is like honey for you. If you find it, there is a future hope for you. And your hope will not be cut off."

Both halves of this are good advice! Honey is good for you. It doesn't just taste good. Here is a site that tells you seven health benefits of honey.

And an interesting thing about honey is that it's one of the very few foods that never spoils. They have found jars of honey in the pyramids, and it's still edible. If you ever get hurt and you don't have conventional medicine, you can put honey on a wound and it will seal it, keep it from infection, and begin the healing process. Honey is amazing! Thank you bees! Thank you God!

But think about that fact, that honey doesn't spoil, in regards to wisdom. Wisdom never gets old and it never spoils, either. Pop culture bromides come and go, and don't seem so wise in the next generation. But true wisdom is eternal. It still heals your soul today, just like it healed people thousands of years ago. That's why it's so important to read good books, especially the Bible. Drink in that wisdom, and it will make you healthy, mentally. physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

God, thanks for honey and for wisdom.
