an honest prayer: One Year Bible Reading for September 26

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible.

Isaiah 48:12-50:11
Ephesians 4:17-32
Psalm 69:1-18
Proverbs 24:5-6

Let's look at the Psalm. No wait, let's LISTEN to the Psalm. Here is a song that is comprised almost entirely of the words of this psalm, by the incomparable Russ Taff.

If you listen to and or read the words carefully, you'll see that this is a pretty desperate cry for help. The writer isn't really exhibiting much faith. He's just saying, "Help!"

And sometimes that the most honest, heart-felt prayer we can pray. God loves our honesty. He loves it when we get mad at Him and tell Him about it. One of my favorite stories about Mother Teresa is when she first arrived in Calcutta, she fell into a mud puddle and got covered in nasty mud. She looked up at heaven and shook her little fist, saying, "If this is how You treat your friends, it's no wonder you have so few of them!" And you can just see God smiling down at this spunky little saint. He loves when we're scared and all we can pray is "HELP!" He loves our hearts, and our honesty.

So don't ever be afraid to be honest with Him.

God, thanks for welcoming our honest prayers.
