Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:
2 Chronicles 33:14-34:33
Romans 16:10-27
Psalm 26:1-12
Proverbs 20:19
Let's look at 2 Chronicles. We read here the tale of Amon. This Amon was a bad king. He worshipped the bad idols, and didn't repent. And his people assassinated him. That's a bad example of an Amon.
I would like to introduce you, in contrast, to a very good Amon. For those who only know me through these blogs, you might not know that I have written a dozen books and published nine of them. They are about time travelers, and the first five books are about a man named Amon. Amon is a Nazi, so you'd think he's a bad guy. But just like you find a bad man ruling Israel in today's reading, you find a good man who's been conscripted into the German military in World War II. He is trying to figure out how to stay a good person in such a bad situation when one of my time travelers shows up on his submarine and invites him to join them. Thus follows many adventures and eight more published books.
The theme to learn here is that whether you're a king of God's chosen people or a Nazi on a submarine in WWII, it is up to YOU whether you're a good guy or a bad guy. What kind of guy will you choose to be?
God, thanks for teaching us that our circumstances don't determine who we are.
