Wholly Undeserved: One Year Bible Reading for July 19

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

1 Chronicles 28:1-29:30
Romans 5:6-21
Psalm 15:1-5
Proverbs 19:18-19

Let's look at Romans. This is maybe the greatest picture of grace that you'll find in all of literature. Romans 5 tells us very clearly, "Very rarely will someone die for a righteous person. But while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

That's grace. And that undeserved grace is what ALL of us need to remember. When we see someone struggling. When we see people falling under the weight of sin all around us. Bring it back to our minds that Jesus died for us (and for them) while we were still sinning. He didn't die for us because we cleaned up our act and did some good things. While we were still doing bad things, Jesus loved us so much that He died for us. Then He rose from the dead so that we can, too.

So when that jerk cuts you off in traffic, remember that Jesus died for him (and for you!) while we were still sinning. When someone gossips about you and tries to hurt you with their words, give them grace, like God gave all of us. None of us deserve it. All of us need it.

God, thank You so much for saving us from our sins long before we did anything good.
