How to Destroy Your Enemies: One Year Bible Reading for July 24

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

2 Chronicles 11:1-13:22
Romans 8:26-39
Psalm 18:37-50
Proverbs 19:27-29

Let's look at the Psalm. It's a very Old Testament passage. What do I mean by that? Well, in the Old Testament, there was a very eye for an eye, I will kill all my enemies kind of mentality. Us vs them. Kill or be killed.

In the New Testament, Jesus taught us a better way. Not that eye for an eye was unjust - but that love is better. Love transcends justice. Jesus taught us not to go kill our enemies, but to love our enemies. As Abe Lincoln says in the picture above, we destroy our enemies by making them our friends.

So pray for your enemies today. ISIS? Child molesters? Mass shooters? Pray for them. Love them. Those are our marching orders, directly from Jesus Himself.

God, thanks for teaching us how to destroy our enemies - Your way.
