We Share in His Sufferings: One Year Bible Reading for July 23

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

2 Chronicles 8:11-10:19
Romans 8:9-25
Psalm 18:16-36
Proverbs 19:26

Let's look at Romans. It says something interesting, which doesn't fit into several Christian belief systems: it says "we are co-heirs with Christ (which means we'll inherit heaven and eternal life) if we share in His suffering so that we might share in His glory." That's not very health and wealth, name it and claim it is it? It seems to be saying that suffering is supposed to be part of this life.

Now I've said before and I'll iterate it here that we don't need to go looking for suffering. We don't need to beat ourselves or sleep on the floor (unless God calls you to). Suffering will find us if we live normal human lives. But just know that suffering WILL come, and when it does, offer it up to Jesus to share in His suffering.

Then you will share in His glory (we're not totally sure what that is exactly, but we know it's a good thing.)

God, thanks for teaching us that we will suffer, but it's for a reason. A really great reason.
