Don't Get Drunk: One Year Bible Reading for July 25

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

2 Chronicles 14:1-16:14
Romans 9:1-24
Psalm 19:1-14
Proverbs 20:1

Let's look at the proverb. It's pretty straightforward, as is the Bible's advice on alcohol. It says, "Wine is a mocker, and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise." So does that mean we should avoid all alcohol? Well, no. For one thing, the Bible tells us to take a little wine for our stomach's sake. And it says that Jesus turned water into wine. And it says that Jesus turned wine into His blood. So yes, we can and even SHOULD drink wine.

But.

As in almost all things, we should practice moderation. We shouldn't drink TOO MUCH. Just like we shouldn't eat too much. Or talk too much. Or sleep too much. Or even exercise too much. Or work too much! We should do (almost) everything just the right amount, and not more.

Why do I say almost?

Because we should love as much as possible. Love God, and love others. You can't love too much.

God, thanks for teaching us not to overdo it on alcohol.
