Who Jesus Is: One Year Bible Reading for January 25

Today we read from the following passages in the One Year Bible:

Genesis 50:1 - Exodus 2:10
Matthew 16:13-17:9
Psalm 21:1-13
Proverbs 5:1-6

And the verse that jumps out at me is the one from Matthew. Jesus is asking a very odd question of His disciples. He first asks who the people think He is. And then He asks who the disciples say He is. Think about that. Can you imagine any other figure in history sitting down with people they've spent years with, day in and day out, and ask them, "Who do you say I am?"

Why was it so important to Jesus, God Himself, that we know who He is? Probably because everything depends on it. The salvation of not just all human beings, but the entire cosmos, depends on Jesus being the Messiah, the Christ, the Son of God. If He was not who He said He was, who Peter confirmed that He was, then we are all doomed.

Good news! He was and is the savior of the world, and we're all saved. He has redeemed all of creation, and it's my job and yours to go tell everyone that good news.

God, thanks for being who You said You were.
