Let's Learn the Easy Way: The One Year Bible Reading for January 24

Today we read from the following passages in the One Year Bible:

Genesis 48:1-49:33
Matthew 15:29-16:12
Psalm 20:1-9
Proverbs 4:20-27

And the passage that jumps out at me is from Matthew. Jesus is with a big crowd of people. Their concerns are being healed of their diseases and getting something to eat. And I'm not minimizing them. If I were crippled or blind or starving, those would be my concerns, too. But Jesus gets a little frustrated with them, especially His disciples, because they've got the GOD OF THE UNIVERSE right in front of them and all they're asking for is food and physical healing. And they're gonna eventually die anyway, right? They could be asking what life is for. Why we exist. What they should DO with their lives. They could be finding out the secrets to the universe. Instead they ask for lunch.

We should learn from their mistakes. We can talk to Jesus today, too. Let's learn the easy way, from the mistakes other people make, and not the hard way: making the same mistakes ourselves.

So ask Jesus to show you what your life is for. Ask Him to tell you what you should do for eternity. Ask Him why He made you. He'll tell you! And you'll get so much more than lunch.

God, thanks for enabling us to learn from others' mistakes.
