St Christopher: "Christ Bearer"

Today we celebrate St Christopher in the book In Caelo et in Terra. He is the patron saint of travelers, and today we'll talk about why. His name literally means "Christ bearer", and a legend (which is perhaps historically true) says that he helped people to cross a river. A small child came and he carried it across the river, even though the child was extremely heavy. When they reached the far side, it was revealed that he had carried Jesus the child across the river, literally doing what his name meant.

Whether we literally take Jesus to people (in the Eucharist) or whether we just share the love of Jesus with the people we meet each day, let's be like Christopher and all be Christ bearers.

God, thanks for this man, who bore You to the world. St Christopher, pray for us.
