Blessed Luigi and Maria Beltrame Quattrocchi: An Ordinary Couple

Today we celebrate what Chesterton called the most extraordinary thing in the world: an ordinary family. Luigi and Maria were married in the early part of the 20th century. They are one of the few examples of saints that you can watch a video of. Of course, you can also watch videos of John Paul II and Mother Teresa, among a few others. They had four children, two of whom became priests, and one of whom became a nun! They went to daily mass and helped with catechesis in their church. But mostly, they just loved their family and lived a life of family holiness. You can read more about them here.

God sometimes calls people to do extraordinary things - to become hermits or go to Africa to share the gospel. But more often, God calls the vast majority of us to do what Luigi and Maria did: raise a happy, holy family. Which are you called to do?

God, thanks for the wonderful example of this loving, ordinary couple living a holy life in their family. Blessed Luigi and Maria Beltrame Quattrocchi, pray for us.
