St John Henry Newman: He Followed the Truth No Matter the Cost

Today we celebrate a saint who pursued the truth doggedly until he found the source of all truth. John Henry Newman was born and raised in the Anglican church. He studied at Oxford and was working in the Anglican church when he started seriously studying church history. He eventually came to the conclusion that the Roman Catholic Church and the original church that Jesus founded were one and the same. He quietly began working to share this truth through tracts. But he was found out, so he converted to Catholicism and left his position in the Anglican church. He was despised by many of his Anglican peers, and distrusted by many Catholics. But he had a brilliant mind, and he wrote many great sermons and books that helped the Catholic church grow. Eventually he was made a Cardinal. You can read more about him here.

Has God called you to do something difficult? If so, trust Him to see you through. It might take courage, but He will reward your faith.

God, thanks for the example of this brave and brilliant convert. St John Henry Newman, pray for us.
