St Charbel Makhlouf: A Private Mystic

Today in the book In Caelo et in Terra, we read about St Charbel Makhlouf. His father died when he was three, and his mother wanted him to marry. But he left home without telling anyone at a young age and joined a local monastery. There he lived for many years, and people would come to hear his wisdom and to be healed due to his prayers. He fell sick around Christmas one year and died eight days later. You can read more about him here.

He was a very private person. He did love others, but he kept to himself for the most part. The introverts who are reading this will probably identify with his spirituality. God gives us our temperaments for a reason. How is He using yours today?

God, thanks for the example of this private man. St Charbel Makhlouf, pray for us.
