all these things

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Haggai 1:1-2:23. God tells the people of Israel that they keep eating and drinking and buying clothes, but they still feel empty and naked.

Have you ever felt that way? That no matter how much you got, it wasn't enough?

Jesus taught us the answer to this giant question 2000 years ago, but people are still trying to answer it the wrong way today. The stereotypical "American dream" teaches you that if you get enough cool stuff, you'll be happy. But Jesus taught us that, while stuff isn't bad in itself, it should never be first.

If we put Him first, and His kingdom, then everything else falls into place. Food is satisfying and clothes are what we need. Just seek first His kingdom, His righteousness. Everything else will go into its proper place in your life.

So you know the answer, but how do you get there? How do we "put Him first"? Well, what do you do with your time, energy, and money? Have you asked Him what you should do with your life? Are you doing that?

That's a good start.

God, thanks for teaching us how to fill that giant void inside of us.
