Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Ezekiel 42:1-43:27. In this passage, God tells us what He wants. That's pretty big, isn't it? Don't you think it's important to know what God wants?
He says, "Son of man, this is the place of my throne and the place where I will rest my feet. I will live here forever among the people of Israel." That's what He wants. To live here forever among us. Among His people. At the time that Ezekiel was written, His "people" was the tribe of Israel. Today, it includes all Christians throughout the whole world. (We'll save the question of whether the nation of Israel is "His people" or not for another blog.)
He wants to come live among us. And to do so, He says what has to happen in the surrounding verses. He says, "They and their kings will not defile my holy name any longer by their adulterous worship of other gods or by honoring the relics of their kings who have died." Let's not get too tied up in the particulars here. The gist is that He wants to come live among us (forever!) and in order for that to happen, we have to lay aside the sins that get us all tangled up so easily. We have to be holy, as He is holy. If you've sinned, don't worry. He knew you would. And He stands ready to forgive your sins and to make you holy again. Just ask!
God, thanks for wanting to live among us forever. Help us to be holy so that You can.
