Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Ezekiel 40:28-41:26. In this passage, we see the importance of the measurements and the numbers used in the sacred places where God takes Ezekiel. And you see this same importance, both throughout the Old Testament and in the New. You also see a great focus on numbers and numerology throughout the history of the church, and throughout history in general. It's fascinating to realize that the pyramids in Egypt have the same ratio in their design as the ratio of the circumference of the Earth to its diameter.
Here is a great article that discusses the church's position on numbers and their importance to our faith. One thing I learned tonight is that 888 is considered a numerical representation of Jesus. Which is pretty cool when you consider what my blog is called.
But taking a step back from theories about numbers and numerology, the illuminati and aliens building the pyramids... we see that numbers truly ARE the language of the universe, as many great thinkers have noticed. Here is an interesting book on the subject.
We see that numbers are the language that God speaks in, as He creates things. There are ratios, like the golden ratio , that literally create the beauty of the world around us. The reason we perceive faces as more or less beautiful is due to a very subtle but profound set of ratios regarding people's features.
So we know that God uses numbers to create beauty. People who study numbers for a living, like math teachers, know how beautiful numbers and their relationships can be. But it's fascinating to see how God has been using the language of numbers, physics, biology, and chemistry to make the world around us more amazing since long before we were smart enough to start studying those things.
God, thanks for being amazing. We look forward to the next thing we become smart enough to appreciate about You.
