your holy family

Today we read from 1 Chronicles 28:1-29:30 in the One Year Bible. David tells us that he has been made king of Israel forever, because his descendants would be rulers over Israel from then on.

This brings up the power and importance of families. God created families, based on the love shared by the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit among themselves. They form the original "family", and our families on earth reflect their love.

That's an important thing for us to realize. That our family is given to us by God, and it's our responsibility to love them and help them become saints. We have great examples throughout history to look to for inspiration, such as the Holy Family of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus pictured above. We can also look to Saints Louis and Zelie Martin and their children, including St Therese of Liseux. Their family was so holy that many of them have been canonized as saints!

So go home and love your family. For most of us, it's the most holy vocation we're called to.

God, thanks for giving us families. Help us love them.

Psalm 68:5-6 : “A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families, He leads forth the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.”
