the Bible forbids workaholics

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Numbers 28:16-29:40. God expressly forbids being a workaholic. How does He do this? Does He say, "The eleventh commandment is: thou shalt not be a workaholic."?

No.

Instead He commands the remedy. He teaches us to do something that keeps us from overdoing our work. He commands us to take days off, and expressly says, "no ordinary work may be done on this day."

Now, there's nothing wrong with loving your job. God WANTS us to find joy and meaning in our work. Having a passion for what you do is a good thing, and it means you'll usually be very good at it.

But God also wants us to keep a healthy balance in our lives. To have a time for work, and a time for rest. He set the example for us when He created the world. Let's follow that example. Because life is just better when we do it the way He designed it.

God, thanks for teaching us not to be workaholics.
