power to the women

Today in the One Year Bible, we see a good example of women's rights being promoted even in Old Testament times. We read this in Numbers 26:52-28:15.

Some women come to Moses and point out that they should inherit an allotment of land because their father died and their "tribe" should not end just because there is no male heir. And the Bible says that God tells Moses that they're right, and to give them some land.

It's good to see that even in the very patriarchal culture of OT Judaism, women were respected and given these rights. Let's work to make sure that women continue to be treated with dignity and respect today, and pray that laws are continually made to protect their rights.

God, thanks for setting the example of how we should respect women's rights.
