Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Numbers 10:1-11:23. God is giving the Levites instructions on how to break down the camp so they can move from place to place. And it's a good reminder to us that this is not our permanent home. That we are passing through, and we're stewards of this place while we're here.
This reminds us of two important things: we should treat refugees and immigrants kindly, because we are refugees and immigrants ourselves. And two, we should treat the earth and our homes as something that we are trusted with for a relatively short time, which we will return to their proper Owner one day.
These two things remind us not to get too comfortable or too entitled.
God, thanks for a good reminder about our transience in this world.
