beauty is truth
Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Leviticus 6:1-7:27. God is giving Moses the laws regarding different kinds of offerings. And when you read about them, especially the grain offering, you can sense the beauty of it. The "aroma pleasing to the Lord" of grain, flour, olive oil, and frankincense is a form of olfactory beauty.
It reminds us that what is real... what is TRUE, after all... is beautiful. God is beauty itself. Not beautiful, but the essence of beauty. And all that He does is beautiful. He is Truth itself. And the Truth that He is, is beautiful.
It's easy to fall into the trap of thinking that things are ugly beneath the surface of appearances. But the actual truth of the matter is that the deepest, truest things in the universe... the things that will last... are beautiful.
God, thanks for giving us the truth of beauty.
