when God whispers

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Genesis 23:1-23:51. Sarah dies, and Abraham buries her. Then he tells his sons NOT to marry any women from the "pagan" land where they live in Canaan. And it makes you wonder why?

Well, he probably saw the women in Canaan do things he didn't approve of. But there was probably another reason. God sometimes whispers in our ears, into our hearts, to tell us things that are good for us, that we might not have done or thought of if He hadn't.

I was out driving in Dallas a few weeks ago when the tornadoes came and caused so much damage. And I felt like it was fine. But tonight, the weather got bad again, and I was planning on doing some driving tonight as well. I felt like God whispered in my ear and said to go home where it was safe tonight. So I did. Who knows what I avoided by listening to Him? Hail damage to my car? Another tornado? Getting my car damaged in a flood? I'll never know.

But I'm glad He's looking out for me.

He's looking out for you, too. Just listen.

God, thanks for whispering in our ears to keep us safe.
