Today in the One Year Bible, we read from 1 John 5:1-21. And John makes it very clear that there are different kinds of sins. Some do not lead to death. And some do.
All sins take us away from God, and that's bad. But some sins take us away from Him in such a permanent way that they will destroy us if we continue in them. The seven deadly sins are such sins. It's important for us to think about how dangerous these sins are, and ask God to help us avoid them as we make our way through life.
Of course, learning to love the way God loves us will help us to avoid the deadly sins. You can see how love keeps you from each of them, if you think about what love does in your heart, and think through 1 Corinthians 13.
God, thanks for teaching us about the different kinds of sins. Help us to avoid them.
