when the Holy Spirit prompts you
Today in the One Year Bible, Paul tells us that the Holy Spirit will urge us to do something. He tells us this in 1 Corinthians 12:1-26.
Paul says that no one who is speaking "by the Spirit of God" will curse Jesus. And then he says, "No one can say 'Jesus is Lord' except by the Holy Spirit.
Now, obviously someone, even an atheist or a devil worshiper, can say the words, "Jesus is Lord." But they'll just be saying words, like I'm just saying words when I say something like, "I just ate a whale." There's no truth to the words.
But when the Spirit of God is in you, you will sometimes find yourself thinking, saying, maybe writing or singing, that Jesus is Lord. It will bubble up out of you without your trying to say it. You'll notice that young Christians will write it in their notes or on their books or in their school lockers. The Spirit of God prompts us to say it.
Likewise, we can say the words, "Jesus be cursed". But they're just words. We won't find truth in them, or find ourselves just thinking it like we do "Jesus is Lord."
Interesting how that works. And the Spirit of God will go on to prompt us to do other things, too. Like help the poor, or teach people about God's love.
God, thanks for prompting us.
