when God opens doors... and what to do until then
Today in the One Year Bible, we read from 2 Corinthians 2:12-17. Paul talks about God opening a door of opportunity for him to go to a certain city and preach.
God opens doors for you, too. And it's important for us to be ready to go through them when He does. He might give you the chance to adopt a child. Or maybe He opens a door to go on a mission trip. Maybe the door He opens allows you to work with the poor in your community.
Whatever He leads you to, He'll give you the ability to do. Just a word of advice, though. Keep in mind Chesterton's wisdom: anything worth doing is worth doing badly. Just because He calls you to do something does NOT mean you'll do it better than anyone else. You might do it terribly, in fact. But that's OK. Because if it's important enough, it's no problem if you do it badly. Just do it.
Until He opens those doors, don't forget how easy it is to do His will in your life. By easy, I mean it's not hard to figure out what it is. Feed the hungry. Clothe the naked. Protect children and widows. Reach out to the lonely, whether in prison or in nursing homes. Be kind to your neighbor. These are all ways of doing His will while you're waiting to see if He's going to "open a door."
God, thanks for opening doors for us to do big things... and for giving us "little things" to do in the meantime.
