quite a promise

Today we read from 1 John 2:1-17 in the One Year Bible. John makes a pretty audacious statement.

He says, "Whoever does what pleases God will live forever." That's a huge promise! If we do what pleases Him, then we will never die. (Our bodies will die, but then we'll be raised to eternal bodies, which will live forever.)

If we do what pleases Him. That does raise an important question. What exactly pleases Him?

Taking care of those in need really seems to please Him alot. Jesus told story after story that made it clear that if we take care of those in need, God is pleased. And if we don't, He is not.

If we put those two concepts together, it makes it pretty clear that we need to take care of those in need, if we want to live forever.

God, help us help others.
