Jesus is Life itself
Today we read from a wonderful book in the One Year Bible. Our selection is from 1 John 1:1-10. John's theology is lofty and beautiful. Jesus, John says, is life itself. He is life. And when we are connected to Him, we have eternal life flowing through us.
It's impossible for us to imagine what it was like, but in the very attempt to try we come closer to Him. To be with Jesus on a daily basis, hearing His words, seeing how He loved people. John was arguably the closest disciple to Jesus during the three years of His public ministry. He lived with Him day in and day out for the whole time, and then he lived with His mother for many years after that.
We, today, can live in connection with Him daily, too. We can pray, and read His words. We can go to church and worship Him. We can receive Him in communion.
And to stay connected to Him, we must confess our sins regularly. John goes on to tell us that if we confess our sins, He will forgive them and bring us back close to Him. But if we pretend we haven't sinned, then we call Him a liar. That's a bad idea.
Let's stay close to Him.
God, thanks for drawing us close to You, the source of all life.
