Jesus wants to know what you want from Him
CLICK HERE for the OT reading for today, and CLICK HERE for the NT reading.
Today, we read about Jesus walking down the road, and two blind men called out to Him. He went to them and said, "What do you want me to do for you?"
Now, before we go on, let's stop and think about what just happened. God Himself is walking down the street. That's enough to ponder by itself. But some blind people ask Him for help. And instead of just walking over and healing them, He asks, "What do you want me to do?" God puts Himself at their disposal. He becomes their servant... these two blind men who probably had zero stature in their community, since that society didn't value people with disabilities very highly. The God of the universe comes up to these two men, and asks, "What do you want?"
Of course, they had been living with their blindness all of their lives. So their natural response was that they wanted to see. And it would be tempting (and cynical) to assume that once they were healed, they forgot all about Jesus (like nine of the lepers did) and went on their way. But we are told, happily, that they then followed Jesus.
Jesus is here before you, today, as well. The God of the universe is asking you, like He asked the blind men, like He asked Solomon... what do you want? And how you answer that question says who you really are. Ponder it. What do you want? What is your greatest desire? If God offered you one wish... what would you wish for?
God, thanks for giving us a great example of how to be a servant... and for asking us what we want.
