what God hates
CLICK HERE for the OT reading for today, and CLICK HERE for the NT reading.
Today we hear about seven things that God hates. That's an interesting list, isn't it? What does God dislike more than anything else? The thing that you might notice is that "lying" is on the list twice. God must really detest lying.
Why is that, do you think? Well, the first reason that comes to mind is that God is Truth. So He would, naturally, dislike the opposite of His own nature. But there are so many reasons that lies are evil. Probably the biggest one is that they take us away from God. The truth brings us to Him, and lies take us away. Anything that takes us away from God is something that He is going to hate.
It's also important to realize that the devil is a liar. He twists the truth to deceive us. And he uses lying humans to do his will. All of these things God hates.
The worst kind of lie, of course, is when we lie to ourselves. Because we are far more likely to believe our own lies than those from anyone else.
So, to avoid the lies, and to live in the truth, it's important to focus on Him. As long as we're trying to tell one lie from another (like in any political situation), it becomes virtually impossible to tell what is truth and where the lies start and stop. But when we focus on Him, the lies fall away. We find the truest truth - which is God Himself.
God, thank You for being the truth - and for helping us to see through the lies.
