A Simple Prayer: One Year Bible Reading for June 5

Today we read these verses in the One Year Bible:

2 Samuel 23:24-24:25
Acts 3:1-26
Psalm 123:1-4
Proverbs 16:21-23

Let's look at the Psalm. We read, "our eyes look to the Lord our God, till He shows us His mercy."

Today in my blog, we're going to learn a simple prayer that you can say anytime. It's called the "Jesus prayer", and it's very easy to learn and very profound. It goes like this, "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner." See how simple that is? But it encapsulates so much good theology in a short little prayer. We are in daily need - CONSTANT need - of His mercy and grace. And the prayer reminds us that we're praying to Jesus who is God Himself, and that we're sinners in need of His help. So much in just a few words!

Did you know that everything you say and do throughout your day can be a prayer? If we lift our thoughts to God, they become prayers. That's why when Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:16 to "pray without ceasing", he literally meant it. Make everything you do and say a prayer!

But when you want to really connect, use the Jesus prayer.

God, thanks for teaching us to pray all the time.
