Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:
1 Kings 3:3-4:34
Acts 6:1-15
Psalm 126:1-6
Proverbs 16:26-27
Let's look at 1 Kings. Here we see a good answer to the question, "How do we love God?" In the first verse, the writer of this passage tells us, "Solomon showed his love for the Lord by following the instructions given to him by his father." This is one of the ways we love God - by honoring our parents. Now, let's say your father was a thief, and he taught you to steal things. Obviously you're not loving God by "following the instructions given to you by your father" and stealing. But you DO love God by showing your father respect and learning the things he teaches you that are good - even if he teaches them by bad example.
Of course, the best way we love God is by loving people. Jesus said, "Whatever you do for the least of these, you do for Me." So show your love for God today by doing something kind for someone in your life who needs help - or just a kind word.
God, thanks for teaching us how to love You.
