Not for Nothing: One Year Bible Reading for June 4

Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:

2 Samuel 22:1-23:23
Acts 2:1-47
Psalm 122:1-9
Proverbs 16:19-20

Let's look at Acts. Just the name of the book is a good title for the theme we're discussing today. We are talking about miracles. See, God DOES perform miracles throughout history, and even today. But He usually does these miracles for a reason. Not just to show off. When you look at Jesus's life, He didn't perform miracles just to show off, or just because He could. He fed people. He healed people. He walked on water - not just so everyone could see Him do it, but to get to the boat.

Today in Acts, we see the disciples start speaking in tongues. But it wasn't just to have fun or perform a miracle for people to go "wow". It was so they could share the gospel.

When Jesus asked Peter if he loved Him, and Peter said yes, Jesus then said, "Feed my sheep." That's what God wants us to do with our lives - whether miraculous or not. Love His children. Feed His sheep.

How can you feed His sheep today?

God, thanks for showing us that our lives - and any miracles - are for a reason: to love people.
