Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:
Judges 13:1-14:20
John 1:29-51
Psalm 102:1-28
Proverbs 14:15-16
Let's look at the Psalm. It's very honest! The Psalmist is saying, "Hello, God! Are you there? I need You! Why aren't You answering me??"
Now, if you've read my blog at all, you know that it's a common theme throughout the Bible that God IS LISTENING. He absolutely IS listening to you. And He cares about your concerns. And there are prayers that He will ALWAYS give you a yes answer to. (Like "give me wisdom!" and "help me grow in my faith!")
But you should also find comfort in the fact that for the last 3 or 4 thousand years, people have felt like you do when they pray and it feels like God is ignoring you. It definitely FEELS THAT WAY sometimes, right? And again, if you read my blog, you know that we need to learn HOW to pray, and the more we learn, the better our prayers are at getting answered. The Bible tells us this very clearly - that there are prayers that get answers and prayers that do not get a yes answer. See James 4:3 for details.
But take heart. God is listening to you. Sometimes it won't seem like it. THAT'S NORMAL! Even David, the Psalmist, whom God called "a man after My own heart", wrote "do not hide Your face from me when I am in distress."
He's listening! Pray without ceasing!
God, thanks for teaching us how to pray.
