Today we read these verses in the One Year Bible:
Judges 11:1-12:15
John 1:1-28
Psalm 101:1-8
Proverbs 14:13-14
Let's look at John. John is my favorite disciple, and his gospel is my favorite gospel. This is one of my favorite passages from the entire Bible. We are given another "in the beginning" to go with the one from Genesis. But in this case, we're given a little more information. In the beginning was the Word, which is "Logos" in Greek, and means more than just "word". It means wisdom, and understanding. It's a huge part of Greek philosophy. So when John told his listeners that Logos was God, he blew their minds.
But here he tells us that the Trinity was right there at the beginning. They "worked together" to make the world. He tells us that nothing was made that Jesus "Logos" didn't make.
It's appropriate for us to end the month of April by visiting this beginning to the universe. God is there at both ends - creating everything, and welcoming us home to heaven.
God, thanks for being the Alpha and the Omega - the beginning and the end. We take comfort knowing we can trust You at both ends of the universe.
