Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:
Deuteronomy 26:1-27:26
Luke 10:38-11:13
Psalm 76:1-12
Proverbs 12:15-17
Let's look at Luke. Jesus sends His disciples out (terrified) to share the good news of the kingdom of heaven. Mind you, they don't even know that Jesus is going to die and come back to life again. They just know what they've seen - Jesus can cure sickness, raise people from the dead, and do all kinds of miracles. And now - so can they! "Even the demons obey us!" they tell Him excitedly when they return. And Jesus says, "Don't get too excited about the demons. Instead, you should be REALLY happy that your names are written in heaven."
And when we read Revelation, we find out that the only people who go to be with Jesus in heaven forever are those whose names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life. Is your name there? If you're not sure - you should find out.
That's really all that matters.
God, thanks for teaching us what we SHOULD get excited about.
