Today we read from these verses in the One Year Bible:
Judges 8:18-9:21
Luke 23:44-24:12
Psalm 99:1-9
Proverbs 14:9-10
Let's look at the Proverb. It says something really profound (go figure!) It says that "Each heart knows its own bitterness; no one else can share its joy." You feel that, right? That's deep down true. There are sadnesses and happinesses that we feel deep in our souls that no one else shares with us. No matter how you try to communicate it to another person, it just doesn't transfer. It's in your heart, and yours alone.
That's one reason why it can be terrifying to be a writer. When you write, you bare your soul to those who read your works. And the better your writing, the more you have to share. So when people who don't know you read your stuff and criticize it, that strikes deep. That's why it take courage to write. But it takes courage to do anything, doesn't it? The more you love, the more you care, the more you can be hurt. But it's worth it.
And there is ONE person who shares those sadnesses and happinesses with you - God. He knows.
God, thanks for giving us the courage to share our bitterness and our joy - even if no one but You understand.
